You Must Love Yourself Before You are Able to Love Another

Motivating to Shield Your Skin

Welcome to Wednesdays at The Motivation Station hosted by Martha from A Sense of Humor is

Essential and Thank you so much for your visit.

Aren't these little wrinkled faces adorable? Wrinkles look cute on these Sharpei puppies, but not

so much on us!

Speaking of faces, I would like to share with you a personal experience that motivated me to start taking care of my skin. Twenty years ago, at the ripe old age of twenty eight years old, I was diagnosed with skin cancer on my face. It was a major wake up call that my tanning days were over and it was time to protect my skin.

I am very diligent about using a high SPF 30 sun block on all exposed skin areas including the back of my hands, everyday. I reapply it once or twice throughout a regular, Non Beach, Non Pool Day. If I am at the beach, pool, skiing, or hiking, I apply it every 90 minutes. Also, it is important to apply sunblock to ears and the neck area. Sunblock needs to be used everyday, day in, day out, because that is when you get the accumulated skin damage that leads to wrinkles and lines. When you commute in the car, walk the dog, get the paper, you are being exposed to UV rays. And not just when it's warm outside!

Regular sunblock use will also decrease the likelihood of developing skin cancer which is typically the result of UV exposure prior to the age of three years old. So, not only put generous amounts of sunblock on yourself, but also your loved ones, big and little. The recommended amount is a generous dime size dollop for your face, another dime size for your neck and decolletage, and generous amounts for the rest of your body.

A good way to see if you are protecting your skin is to compare the skin on your backside to that of the exposed parts of your body. It can be quite eye opening for sure!

There is no excuse Not to take care of your skin with the variety of sunblocks in lotion, stick, and spray form, SPF makeup, and assortment of hats and clothing available to protect you from the sun. It just comes down to making the decision to take care of your largest organ and getting into the routine. This can not only save your beautiful face, but also your life.

Your challenge this week is to share how you protect your skin or how you plan to start if you don't already. Thank you, and your skin and loved ones thank you too.
